Removing Emotional Barriers to Academic Progress
At A Different Approach Ltd, we don't just tutor; we provide Tier 2 early interventions that bridge the gap between the classroom and overstretched clinical services like CAMHS. Our evidence-based therapies are designed to stabilise high-needs pupils, reduce exclusions, and provide the "impact data" required for Ofsted and EHCP Annual Reviews.
1. Drawing and Talking:
Best for: Pupils struggling with trauma, ACEs, or school-based anxiety who find "talk therapy" confrontational.
The School Benefit: A non-intrusive, 12-week "Right-Brain" processing tool that identifies "silent sufferers" before their needs escalate into a crisis. It creates a calmer, more focused mindset for classroom engagement.
Mode of Delivery: Our primary model is personalised 1-to-1, face-to-face intervention. However, we offer the flexibility of small-group workshops or secure online sessions to support pupils with medical needs or school-based anxiety.
2. LEGO® Based Therapy:
Best for: Neurodiverse pupils or those with Language difficulties/EAL who struggle with communication and unstructured social time.
The School Benefit: Uses the highly motivating "Brick Club" model to build turn-taking, conflict resolution, joint attention, communication and fine motor skills. We provide specific evidence of social progress (e.g., "initiating peer requests") for Section F of an EHCP.
Mode of Delivery: Our primary model is face-to-face, small group (2 to 6) intervention. However, we offer the flexibility of personalised 1 to 1 sessions if required.
3. The STILL Method®:
Best for: Pupils experiencing EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), exam stress, or panic attacks.
The School Benefit: A structured, 6-session coaching toolkit that gives pupils "in-the-moment" techniques to calm the "fight or flight" response and long term strategies for the future. It is a proactive system that builds the resilience needed to remain in—or return to—the school environment.
Mode of Delivery: Our primary model is face-to-face, small group (2 to 6) or 1 to 1 intervention. However, we offer the flexibility of secure online sessions to support pupils with medical needs or school-based anxiety.
